And Finally... Scientists discover happy gene

By James Shepherd on Feb 25, 09 03:59 PM in News

A gene that affects if we are cheery or gloomy has been tracked down by researchers.

Scientists said this may lead to help for traumatised people - as those who look on the bright side are more resistant to stress.

Sixteen out of 97 people tested were optimists with the happy gene variant, research published by the Royal Society discovered.

Prof Elaine Fox, of Essex University, said: "We have shown for the first time a genetic variation is linked with the tendency to look on the bright side."
