And Finally... Former NASA astronaut claims alien cover-up

By James Shepherd on Apr 22, 09 01:33 PM in News

A former NASA astronaut says the US government continues to cover up the existence of alien life.

Speaking at a conference of UFO enthusiasts in Washington DC, Apollo 14 crew member Edgar Mitchell said: "Mankind has long wondered if we're alone. No, we're not.

"Our destiny - and we might as well get started with it - is to become a part of the planetary community." Mitchell, 78, who in 1971 became the sixth man to walk on the moon, called on President Obama to open secret files to reveal the truth about extra-terrestrials visiting Earth.

He also said a flying saucer had crashed at Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947, but that locals "had been hushed and told not to speak about their experience by military authorities".

He said they had been warned of "dire consequences" if they were to talk.

Mitchell also said that about 10 years ago a Navy admiral confirmed to him that a UFO had crashed at Roswell.

I read anywhere that NASA had planned a manned mission to Mars by August, 1982, but the fact that Viet Nam war was too expensive. That mission could have been a drop within the fiscal bucket, compared to the military spending in those days. When you compare the value of a manned mission to Mars to that of slugging it out in Southeast Asia, I vote Mars, all the way. We lost Viet Nam; what a waste. We lost our early journey to Mars; what a waste. Now, we have global financial woes and budget cuts. Yet again, Mars normally takes the back seat just to fall out of the vehicle. What can we do avoiding strike three?
