And Finally... English language set to reach 1 million words

By James Shepherd on May 7, 09 10:41 AM in News

The English language will celebrate its one millionth word next month, linguistic experts predict.

Contenders for the milestone include defriend and noob, a new computer game player.

Analyst Paul Payack, of the Global Language Monitor in Texas, believes the one million mark will be crossed on June 10.

He said: "Some 1.53 billion people speak English around the globe.

Words are being added to the language at the rate of some 14.7 a day."
