And Finally... Pub becomes 'Smoking Research centre'
A pub's bid to beat the smoking ban has been stubbed out.
Landlady Kerry Fenton let regulars light up in a tap room she turned into a "smoking research centre".
But now she faces a fine of up to £2,500 after health officials ruled the idea illegal.
A Department of Health spokesman said: "This is not an approved research facility and it is up to the local Environmental Health Department to take enforcement action."
Non-smoker Kerry, 36, saw customer numbers double at the Cutting Edge pub in Worsbrough, Barnsley, with drinkers allowed to smoke after filling in a questionnaire about their smoking habits.
Smoking laws allow such rooms in buildings with a separate room and no through bar, but they must meet strict DoH criteria.
