A man spoke of his shock after discovering a deadly spider had made a transatlantic journey hiding among his belongings.
The female black widow spider stowed away for a month inside a hose pipe on a container ship from San Francisco to the UK.
The eight-legged intruder was only discovered when a woman from a removal company unpacked the possessions of Mike and Trish Newman following their move to Presteigne in Powys, mid Wales.
After being caught in a jam jar, the spider was sent to an exotic pets specialist to be cared for.
