Brave teenager Mike Perham battled 50ft waves and savage storms to become the youngest person to sail around the world single-handed, but yesterday he was close to tears... at the sight of his huge welcome home.
Hundreds of well-wishers - among them his proud mum Heather and girlfriend Beckie - cheered him as he stepped ashore from his racing yacht Totallymoney.com in Portsmouth where his 30,000-mile voyage started last November.
Overwhelmed Mike, 17, of Potters Bar, Herts, said: "The tears welled up when I saw the crowds. It's incredible. I'm quite honoured by it all."
