Eye Candy Caddies provides about 150 women who help out players for £230 a round.

Website profiles show some dressed in underwear and talking about favourite body parts and music. But course operator Leaderboard Golf says they are damaging the sport and has banned them.

A spokesman said: "With golf shortlisted to become an Olympic sport, anyone caring about the development of the game should work to ensure it is as professional, inclusive and culturally inoffensive as any other major sport. We hope other courses will follow our example."

But Eye Candy boss Sarah Stacey, 43, accused them of being killjoys. She said: "We put a smile on faces and the girls' presence helps raise extra money for charities.

We're not interfering with the more serious side of golf. The girls do not fraternise with golfers." They carry clubs, rake bunkers and "provide light banter".

The girls are banned from Leaderboard courses in Biddenden, Kent, Wadhurst, East Sussex, Kingsclere, Hants, and Oxford.
