Scientists are hailing a substance found in human sperm as the "holy grail" of anti-ageing treatments.
A new study says that spermidine reversed the effects of growing old during lab tests on mice and worms.
Scientists believe the substance decreases cell damage so may help in the fight against dementia. One researcher said: "If you could not only stop Alzheimer's in its tracks, but reverse the process, it would be a major step forward in reversing the ageing process."
Spermidine is also found in wheatgerm, grapefruit and soya beans.
The study was led by Austria's Graz University and was published in British journal Nature Cell Biology.
