And Finally... New 'camouflaged' speed cameras on the way

By James Shepherd on Oct 18, 09 10:43 AM in News

A new breed of secret cameras are set to catch speeding motorists... without even flashing.

The sneaky devices - which look like steel posts - will be very hard to spot.

So many drivers going too fast will not even realise they are about to be snapped until it's too late... and they get a fine in the post.

The hi-tech cameras, nicknamed "Supertrap" can even cover ALL motorway lanes at once - and can even tell the difference between cars and lorries.

According to motor magazine Auto Plus, the French government intends to introduce the cameras within a year... and the UK is likely to follow within months.

A spokesman for the magazine publishers said: "Continental roads get new systems such as this before the UK, and Auto Plus has uncovered plans by the French to introduce the cameras."

The move has been criticised by motoring groups for concentrating on catching speeding drivers rather than slowing traffic in general.

Isn't it about time we had onboard speed detection devices built in at the manufacturing stage which automatically make Visa payments every time we exceeded the limit.
This would do away with the ridiculous need for so much useless public expenditure.
OH, I forgot, the ability to track us EVERYWHERE so that they can charge us for road use will inevitably be able to work out whether we speed and it's going to be set up so that the owner/driver gets an automatic bill to pay.
I resent the attitude taken to the British driver and total lack of the same attention to real policing where you can be burgled and it takes three weeks to get a copper to call.
Time to say goodbye Gordon Brown.......
