Stress of holidays makes tourists bicker furiously, with a third having a row before they even leave home.

More than half argue during the journey. Once away, getting lost and companions refusing to ask directions cause the most arguments, a survey found.

Not agreeing where to eat, standard of accommodation and what to do during the break are also flashpoints, the poll by Expedia.co.uk found.

Jonathan Cudworth, from Expedia, said: "The causes of quarrels while on holiday are often unavoidable."
