And Finally... Record longest six-day film Cinematon to hit French cinemas

By James Shepherd on Nov 11, 09 10:08 AM in Entertainment

Film fans are facing the ultimate test - to sit through a silent French movie that lasts more than SIX DAYS.

But it is not just its vast length that makes Cinématon the world's greatest challenge for moviegoers.

It is also arguably the DULLEST film ever made.

There is hardly a star in sight. Instead, mostly pals of director Gérard Courant feature in the 150-hour epic's 2,500 scenes.

Each gets exactly three minutes and 25 seconds to express themselves - silently- on the themes of life, love and death in a movie filmed over more than 30 years.

The director's favourite involves a seven-month-old baby being... babylike. But the scene, Courant excitedly claims, "shows the whole spectrum of human emotions". In 1985, he filmed US screenwriter Samuel Fuller, explaining: "He lit his cigar and sat there smoking for three minutes, 25 seconds."

Some do absolutely nothing, including the actress Nicoletta Braschi who sits "like a statue".

The "highlight" involves Monty Python star Terry Gilliam munching a 100 Franc note at a seaside resort.

The performance impressed Courant who said: "He played with the frame, exiting and entering, and ate the note, making it into a little ball."

Another hot moment is fellow film director Ken Loach trying to cross a busy road.

Courant added: "It's a documentary, but also fiction.

"I've never changed the concept, so Cinématon clips from different eras can be shown alongside each other."

Cinématon will be screened for the first time in Avignon later this month and then in Paris in January. And in case you wondered... yes, tickets are still available.
