And Finally... Woman makes 999 call over playful cat

By James Shepherd on Dec 30, 09 10:10 AM in News

Greater Manchester Police have released audio of a 999 call made by a woman because her cat was "doing her head in".

The woman, who appears to have a slurred voice, can be heard telling call handlers that her cat was annoying her because it was playing with some string.

She said it was an emergency because it had "been going on for two hours now".

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) released the audio to remind people that the 999 service should not be abused.

Supt Lee said New Year's Eve is the force's busiest night and officers are preparing to receive thousands of emergency calls.

Last new year, GMP's call handlers dealt with more than 2,400 emergency calls in the six hours after midnight.

In another call a man contacted 999 to say he was stuck on a patch of ice in a street in Bolton and was too scared to go forwards or backwards.
