And Finally... Camel milk on its way to European shelves
The product, branded 'Camelicious', could hit shop shelves across Europe from as early as next year after health regulators gave the United Arab Emirates permission to import the product to the 27 member states, pending site inspections and other tests.
Apparently camel's milk has three times the Vitamin C content of cow's milk and is considered a viable alternative for those who are lactose-intolerant.
"We know this isn't what you'd call a mainstream product in the West," said David Wernery, legal adviser for the Camelicious brand. "We're thinking about health food stores and alternative markets. It's probably going to be a niche thing at first."
You might think that camel milk has been on sale for years in the UAE, but apparently it is a very recent phenomenon. The whole project was kicked off by Wernery's father, Ulrich, who, in 2000, asked Dubai's ruler, Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum: "You race camels, why not milk them?"
