And Finally... The days of KITT are finally here
The classic 1980s show centred around a technologically advanced car called KITT, which could drive itself and communicate with its passengers.
Now a vehicle called MadeInGermany, or MIG for short, can replicate some of those functions, although whether it can backchat in the same way that KITT did to David Hasselhoff remains to be seen.
Nevertheless, it can drive itself and be ordered to pick you up via an app on a smartphone or iPad. The car will then work out the best route and tell the passenger how long it will take it to get there.
MIG uses sensor technology to create a 3D image of the street in the car's computer, picking up other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists etc and roadsigns. The app user can also drive the car remotely through their phone/iPad if the mood takes them.
Optimal use of the technology (i.e. car-sharing) could result in all the car traffic in a city like Berlin being reduced by a fifth, say the developers.
