And Finally... Pensioner cuts off internet to an entire country

A 75-YEAR-OLD woman from the eastern European country of Georgia is apparently facing prison for allegedy cutting off internet provision to the whole of the neighbouring country of Armenia.

The elderly woman was apparently scavenging for copper and managed to pull out the fibre-optic cable which supplied the data.

All three of Armenia's wholesale internet providers - ArmenTel, FiberNet Communication and GNC-Alfa - found themselves offline for hours after the damage to the infrastucture, which is owned by the Georgian Railway telecom Company.

The woman now reportedly faces a prison sentence of up to three years.

"Taking into account her advancing years, she has been released pending the end of the investigation and subsequent trial," spokesman Zura Gvenetadze told AFP news agency.
