Crewe Memories: Famous train to run until 2012 after restoration works
A FAMOUS steam locomotive has been given a new lease of life following restoration work at its Crewe birthplace.
Engineers from the LNWR (Heritage) Company has carried out vital work on The Princess Elizabeth at the Heritage Centre on Vernon Way which will allow it to continue operating until 2012, as one of the few select steam engines still allowed on the national rail network.
A spokesman for the Princess Elizabeth Society, which operates the 75-year-old engine, said: "We are very pleased that due to the goodwill of our members and supporters we have been able to raise funds to repair the boiler of our engine."
The above picture shows the engineers who have finished work on the Princess Elizabeth steam engine at the Heritage Centre in Crewe.

It's lovely that this wonderful steam engine can continue to run on the main line.
She is truly magical to watch when she is in full steam.
My grandad, Albert Shaw, was the passed fireman on the record run and I now have his presentation clock on my mantlepiece which I am very proud to own.
