A 19TH century church is taking on a new role as a combined place of worship and community centre.
The new chapter in the history of the newly converted St Mary's Church, Broughton, was marked on Sunday in a visit by the new bishop of St Asaph, the Rt Rev Gregory Cameron, in a service of thanksgiving.
Work on converting the church started in November. The building now has an upstairs meeting room and prayer room and the pews have been replaced by chairs, bought by members of the congregation and the wider community in memory of loved ones.
Frodsham war memorial is encased by steel scaffolding as work began this week on urgent repairs to the treasured sandstone obelisk, which has stood atop Overton Hill since 1921 in tribute to 126 sons of Frodsham lost in two world wars.
A team of Hirst Conservation experts have been charged with cleaning and repointing the structure and re-waxing the slate name plates. The surrounding iron railings will also be repainted. after Frodsham Town Council secured a grant for half the cost from English Heritage and the Wolfson Foundation, made under a scheme run jointly with the War Memorial Trust
A sunny afternoon in May 1959 and the village of Gwernaffield was buzzing with excitement.
Children gathered in a dusty lane ready for the opening of their new playing field.
Local district councillor Tom Rich was invited to open the facility, built on a former rubbish tip.
Hard-working volunteers had been beavering away for years to raise the £1,232 needed for the project.
Today, the cost would barely cover the deposit on a piece of playground equipment!
The opening ceremony was preceded by a procession of excited youngsters in fancy dress from the village school to the playing field gates.
HOME Secretary William Whitelaw, pictured, toured the Broughton aircraft factory to drum up support for the Tories' Euro election campaign.
POLICE were investigating the theft of a compressor and pneumatic drill worth £1,400 from a council construction site at Llanerchymor, near Mostyn.
MOTHERS and toddlers from Brynford pre-school playgroup were forced to take shelter from the rain during a procession through the village to celebrate National Playgroup Week.
AN 80-name petition was handed into Clwyd County Council demanding a 30mph speed limit through Afonwen.

THE life and work of a pioneering Flintshire naturalist is to be celebrated with a week-long festival.
The Thomas Pennant Society, Whitford, has organised the event in honour of the scientist, writer and explorer who was writing his own thoughts on evolution long before Darwin put pen to paper.
Pennant wrote A History of Quadrupeds in 1776, a book which was among Charles Darwin's collection when he set sail for his groundbreaking voyage of discovery around South America in 1831.

The community garden and allotments sit snugly on a plot of land behind Connah's Quay police station.
Welsh Assembly First Minister Rhodri Morgan was invited to open the green space, which includes a memorial garden to two local servicemen killed in action.

ONE of the things many of us oldies miss these days is the once regular sighting of a contingent of the Boys' Brigade.
We became so used to seeing them marching in parades and carnivals.
Looking back, I suspect we almost took them for granted.
So much so that many us never even thought of joining.
But now, with the benefit of hindsight, we realise we missed out on plenty of splendid camping trips.
The Boys' Brigade was also a chance to play in one of the many successful bands which were such notable and splendid features of the companies.
IT was a master stroke by Marks and Spencer to sell off two million items at a penny apiece in its 300 stores up and down the country.
For the company, celebrating its 125th anniversary, it was a reminder of the retail giant's early trading days when it began as a penny bazaar back in 1884.
It was also a reminder that other stores followed suit, although not to the same extent.
Woolworth built a reputation on the number of goods that could be purchased for as little as sixpence (old money, of course).
Woolies, of course, had a small store at the top end of the old Victorian main shopping thoroughfare in Widnes until all their stores closed down a few months ago.
THE £900,000 restoration of the garden created by the Ladies of Llangollen will be celebrated at one of the UK's top horticultural events.
Visitors to The Gardening Show, at the Royal International Pavilion, Llangollen, on Saturday and Sunday, June 6 and 7, can take a free minibus service to Plas Newydd.
Now owned by Denbighshire County Council, which financed the garden's restoration, it will be linked to the show for the first time.
Plas Newydd's head gardener, Gary Lovelock, promises the 13 acres, with their ornate topiary, parterre, Georgian shrubbery and dell, will be at their best for the show weekend.
