Blacon Memories: A tragic ending for Shep the pupils' pal

By Chester Chronicle on May 1, 09 12:32 PM in 1900-1999

A SAD ending met Shep the dog, featured in The Chronicle on April 16 surrounded by pupils from Blacon Junior School.

Christine Corbett, nee Bailiff, contacted us to name herself in the picture, taken in the 1950s.

While it was not known who owned the border collie, he would arrive and leave with pupils to the school where he was well looked after.

Mrs Corbett explained he used to go to the butchers where the butcher fed him meat.

One day, when a Mrs Jones called an ambulance to her house in Blacon, the ambulance reversed and tragically killed Shep, leaving the children traumatised.

Mrs Corbett also named Rita McGinty and her own brother Kenny Bailiff in the photograph.

The above picture shows Shep the dog with his friends from Blacon Junior School.
