Chester Memories: Can you help in tracing former residents?
We have two requests for help in tracing family members who lived in Chester. If you have any information on these families please contact Jo Henwood.
AN IRISHMAN is appealing to Chronicle readers for help in finding out more about his great-grandfather.
Ken Haughton, of County Wicklow, is looking for any information about Patrick Roe, who served in Chester City Police for more than 25 years, retiring as an inspector.
Patrick was born in 1850 and married Winifred Roe, née Timmins.
They were both from a small town land in Ireland called Rosenalis, in what was then known as Queen's County but is now Co Laois.
Ken has Patrick's service record with Chester City Police and the Dublin Metropolitan Police from 1872 to 1898. He served in Dublin for the Royal Irish Constabulary from 1869 to 1872.
Patrick and Winifred's children were born in Chester and Ken has a record of the family on the 1871 and 1881 census.
He said: "One address for them was Chester Street and the other was Saltney.
"I also have the family on the 1911 census in Dublin and a copy of Pat and Winifred's 1872 wedding certificate."
Ken added: "I think he received a medal for saving someone from drowning but I have never been able to locate anything more on him."
One of the couple's sons, Anthony, worked for the Jacob's biscuit factory in Dublin before moving to Liverpool.
Patrick died in 1923 in Dublin.
A DERBYSHIRE couple are calling on Chronicle readers to help them research a family tree.
Mark and Sally Swift, of Matlock, are searching for information about Sally's grandfather, Frederick Herbert Warburton.
Frederick was born Frederick Herbert Warren in Old Colwyn (Colwyn Bay) in 1897 to parents William and Mary.
Mark says: "We don't know why but he was adopted by William and Emily Warburton, who lived at 15 St Anne Street, Chester.
"He was not on the 1911 census with the rest of the family but we do know that he joined the Army at 16 and gave St Anne Street as his address.
"There is a possibility that he worked for a local butcher called Charmley but we are not sure about this."
William change his name back to Warren in 1921. He married Elsie Davis and settled in Derbyshire.
