Northwich Memories: Blast from the past
A FORMER Chronicle columnist has released his latest book - exploring the history of Northwich in pictures.
Paul Hurley has delved into council and Salt Museum archives and dug out 180 fascinating photographs chronicling the town's development from the late 1800s.
A spokesman for publishers Amberley said: "Northwich Through Time is a unique insight into the illustrious history of Northwich, an exciting examination of the town and it's famous streets."
Readers follow a timeline and see the changing face of Northwich through 96 full colour pages. The book, priced £12.99, is in shops now.
Mr Hurley, of Petrel Close, Winsford, has been a freelance writer since retiring from Cheshire Constabulary in 2002. He released his first novel in 2005 and is currently writing his second.
He said: "There is something for everyone here, whether they have lived in the area all their lives or they are just visiting this fabulous town.
"It also shows how photography has continually evolved to keep up with an ever-changing society."
The book is the first in a series of five by Mr Hurley. Winsford Through Time will hit the shelves in the next month and Mid Cheshire Villages Through Time will be out before Christmas.
Books on the history of Middlewich and Nantwich are scheduled for released in 2010.
Paul Hurley is still seeking pictures for his forthcoming book on Mid Cheshire villages.
