Chester Memories: Chester historian Len Morgan hosts exhibition at St Michael's History and Heritage
A TRIP down Memory Lane is in store for visitors to the Heritage and History Centre this week as local historian Len Morgan exhibits his collection of nostalgic photographs.
The exhibition, aptly entitled Then and Now, includes photographs from as far back as 1860 and allows visitors to see the vast change in some of Chester's unique features such as the Rows and the Cross.
One set of photographs to look out for are those depicting St John Street Post Office - the change in the front of the building is astonishing as the grand, concrete staircase of the early 1900s has been replaced by a smaller, more modest couple of steps leading up to the doors.
Heritage centre curator Elaine Pierce-Jones said: "The photographs show how Chester has changed and evolved. I have lived here all my life and even I was surprised by a few of Len's new photographs and how different some places look today."
Chester Heritage and History Centre is often the first port of call for both local residents and visitors who want to learn more about the area.
It often hosts exhibitions, with Len Morgan being a regular contributor.
The history enthusiast is well-known across the district for his enthusiasm and love of the city.
Elaine added: "The show appeals to all generations; some people will remember the older photographs themselves while the younger ones can get a sort of education on the history of Chester and how it has grown over the years."
The picture shows Len Morgan and selected photos from his exhibition will be featured on this blog over the coming weeks.
