By Flintshire Chronicle on Sep 4, 09 10:58 AM in 1800-1899

A NINETEEN century pub has been transformed into a four-bedroom house.

The Miners Arms, Gwernaffield, opened in about 1800 but closed in 2007 and was later bought by Mold Development.

The pub was originally used not just for quenching the thirst of miners but also as a pay office for the local lead mines.

In 1900 the pub's licensee was John Lewis, who worked in the mines while his wife Eileen ran the pub.

The couple had six sons and three daughters.

Malcolm Davies of Mold Development said: "In 2008 we bought the pub and extensively refurbished it, taking care to retain as many of the old features as was possible.
"The resulting attractive four-bedroom house is now for sale but local residents interested in the history of the building are invited to view the sympathetic refurbishment."

The picture shows The Order of Forresters outside the Miners Arms, Gwernaffield, in about 1900.
