Flintshire Memories: Pupils of Rector Drew Primary School, Hawarden, take part in Second World War-themed history day
HISTORY took over the curriculum at Rector Drew Primary School in Hawarden when pupils spent the day learning about the Second World War.
Year 6 children dressed in 1940s attire and military uniforms on Friday and took part in workshops and activities organised by teacher Jayne Williams.
Throughout the day pupils used scales to weigh out their weekly rations and created their own wartime ID cards. The aim of the day was to answer the question 'what was it like for a child during the Second World War?'.
Mrs Williams, the school's history co-ordinator, said: "We normally do a trip to a museum or something, but this time we thought we'd do something a bit more fun.
"It was brilliant. There were so many things for the children to do and get involved with, they got completely absorbed!"
