Low Carbon: Lights switched off at Bishop Heber School in Malpas for climate change

By Sarah Griffiths on Apr 30, 09 01:47 PM in News

Bishop Heber pupils turned the lights off to show they care about climate change.

To support Earth Hour, students at the Malpas high school switched off all lights for one hour during their citizenship lesson.

This was to support the international WWF-led initiative where people across the globe were asked to turn their lights off for one hour to show world leaders that they want action to tackle climate change.

During the week assemblies were given covering environmental sustainability and resources issues.

The highlight of the day was for the school Eco Group to attend a tele-conference at school with Andy Ridley, executive director of Earth Hour in Sydney, Australia.

Twelve students, along with their eco project teacher, Karl Roberts, took part in the tele-conference.

Mr Roberts said: "Students responded well to the opportunity to hold the tele-conference and their comments included that they are scared about climate change, the ice melting and the possibility of floods.

"They could see how they can act and make a difference."
