Low Carbon: Miss Cheshire, Catriona Cameron of Runcorn, to represent county at Miss Earth North West finals
A BEAUTY queen from Runcorn is to represent Cheshire in a pageant with an environmental twist.
Catriona Cameron, of Norton Village, has already scooped the title of Miss Cheshire 2009, which was awarded in April this year.
And now the 23-year-old student and model has fought off competition from thousands of other hopefuls for the chance to represent the county in the Miss Earth England North West finals.
Miss Earth aims to find four UK country winners to represent England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The corresponding titles for each part of the United Kingdom are Miss Air, Miss Water, Miss Fire and Miss Earth.
The four overall UK country winners will then travel to the Miss Earth finals in Warwickshire on August 21-22.
The contenders will be up against contestants from 120 countries in a televised event.
Miss Earth aims to spread the green message around the globe.
And Catriona said she hopes her participation will encourage people to consider the environmental impact of their lifestyles.
She said: "Being environmentally responsible does not necessarily mean making massive changes, every little thing helps.
"Recycle your newspapers, glass bottles, plastic and cans, walk or use public transport wherever possible.
"People can also recycle their unwanted clothes by giving them to charity shops.
"There are so many environmentally friendly activities the whole family can get involved in.
"We have a beautiful planet so let's enjoy it, not destroy it!"
The picture shows Miss Cheshire title holder Catriona Cameron disposing of an old copy of the Weekly News in an environmentally friendly fashion.
