Low Carbon: Prithvi Raj Datta, retired refrigeration engineer from Runcorn, sets climate change bid at Express Laundry, Widnes
AN ENGINEER from Halton has launched a campaign to revolutionise energy efficiency and beat childhood obesity.
However, Prithvi Raj Datta, of Castlefields, Runcorn, said his Evergreen company needs at least £20,000 investment to launch the scheme.
The retired refrigeration engineer demonstrated a prototype electricity-generating bicycle prototype to the Weekly News at Express Laundry, his son's laundry business in Victoria Road, Widnes. He said he also intends to use hot air from the laundrette to produce power.
Mr Datta said schools could use the bikes to generate power and help obese children to lose weight. He said this would save school and NHS cash.
He added that Evergreen, his company, will also train Halton students to convert petrol engines to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) - an alternative to petrol Mr Datta said could save 50% of motoring energy costs.
He told the Weekly News his main aim is to help people rather than make cash.
He said: "I'm not concerned about money. I'm 69 and it would be good if I can transfer my abilities before I'm incapable. The technology is quite simple really.
"We're talking to the council and they have looked at the scheme with regards to creating jobs.
"We're not manufacturing anything - just putting well-known technology into practice.
"The technologies can be used in any building in Halton.
"At the moment one bike can power a 12-volt battery and if these technologies together generate just 10% of a school's energy needs then that is a good thing.
"The bikes could even be quite adventurous for young people."
