Low Carbon: RecycleBank scheme launched in Lynton Crescent, Widnes, with Halton Borough Council
THE first 'rewards for recycling' scheme in the North was launched in Halton this week.
Dignitaries from RecycleBank - the company behind the initiative - and Halton Borough Council officials launched the landfill-cutting initiative at Lynton Crescent, Widnes.
The scheme will be available to more than 10,000 Halton homes, but may be extended pending the pilot outcome.
The scheme rewards residents with points for recycling. Points can be exchanged for money off in shops, restaurants, leisure and entertainment outlets.
The rewards are expected to average £135 per family per year. Households have the opportunity to earn on average over £135 in rewards value per year to use at partners such as British Gas, Cineworld, Marks & Spencer and Costcutter.
Residents could be rewarded for recycling with vouchers from cash that would otherwise been spent on landfill.
