Low Carbon: Chester volunteer's climate change mission

A VISIT to Kenya with Christian Aid has inspired a volunteer from Chester to shout louder about climate change.

Sarah Rowe was one of 20 volunteers who spent two weeks in Kenya to see first-hand the life changing work of development charity Christian Aid.

Sarah was inspired by her journey and the people she met.

Next week's UN climate change conference has been billed as the most important in our history.

If there is no action scientists say temperatures could rise by 4C and sea levels by a metre before the end of the century, which could trigger catastrophes.

FLINTSHIRE County Council has pledged to reduce its carbon emissions by 60% by 2021.

As part of its Carbon Reduction Strategy, the council has promised to reduce emissions from its buildings by 20% in 2012, 40% in 2017, rising to 60% in 12 years time.

A PROJECT between Arriva and Merseytravel which has given the green light to fuel-efficient driving and cutting exhaust emissions has won the Innovation Award at the UK Bus Awards.

The EcoManager system gives drivers real-time feedback through a dashboard- mounted LED which runs from green through amber to red, indicating fuel consumption and helping drivers adjust their driving style.

AN INNOVATIVE environmental 'surgery' has been held on a housing estate in Crewe to encourage residents to think green.

The event was held at the Derby Docks estate, which recently benefited from £105,000 worth of eco-improvements, including communal recycling and rubbish collection points.
