Low Carbon: Global warming talks are not on track, Ed Miliband
International talks to tackle global warming are not on track to save the planet, Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband warned yesterday.
He spoke out as a crunch UN climate summit at Copenhagen entered its second week. The pressure is on for a global deal before world leaders, including US president Barack Obama, arrive in Denmark.
Mr Miliband said: "We're getting close to midnight in this. We're not yet on track for the kind of deal we need.
"We need more progress before the leaders arrive."
Meanwhile, police squared up to demonstrators yesterday on a second day of protests near the talks in Denmark.
Nearly 40,000 joined a march on Saturday with almost 1,000 arrested. Organisers slammed officers for penning in crowds for hours. Two Britons were deported.
