Low Carbon: Homeowners who go green will get cash payments

By James Shepherd on Feb 2, 10 10:15 AM in News

Homeowners who go green will get cash payments, the Government announced yesterday.

People will be paid for generating electricity for their own use and to feed back into the National Grid.

Under the scheme, which comes into effect in April, those who install solar panels could earn £900 a year and save £140 a bills.

Other renewable technologies, such as hydropower, wind and anaerobic digestion - which converts waste - are also covered.

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said one in 10 homes could be producing their own electricity by the end of the decade.

He added that the new "feed-in tariff" would provide the incentive for homeowners to invest in "low-carbon living".
