GREEN campaigners with big plans to generate hydro-electric power in Nantwich from the River Weaver are losing patience with council chiefs.

COUNCILS were today urged to do more to help turn thousands of acres of old quarries into nature reserves which could support wildlife such as natterjack toads, otters and nightingales.

ELECTRICITY at Flint High School and Ysgol Maes Hyfryd is to be generated in a more environmentally friendly way thanks to a 15m-high wind turbine which has been erected on the school field.

Flowers and plants in the UK are blooming earlier than at any time in the last 250 years because of rising global temperatures.

A study, which uses "citizen science" - ranging from observations by Victorian vicars to Springwatch viewers - showed that plants flowered five days earlier in response to each degree rise in temperature.
